Employees stated that they felt as though their lives were put at risk after no further checks were carried out and the asbestos was disturbed exposing asbestos fibres including cancer causing dust.
An Epsom council worker died of Mesothelioma after working in the parks and recreation department for 23 years. It was said that throughout this time she was likely to be exposed to asbestos causing the disease.
A Shell employee received a 5 figure compensation from the company after being exposed to asbestos dust on a North Sea Rig for over 40 years. He was diagnosed with a serious Lung condition leaving him in need of oxygen daily.
