New Approved Code of Practice for Managing and Working with Asbestos

Last Updated on 22nd April 2021 by Marketing

The Asbestos Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) referenced as L143 has now been finalised and published. Following a three month consultation period, and in response to Professor Lofstedt’s independent review of health and safety legislation ‘Reclaiming Health and Safety for all’, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has now published the revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) – L143 “Managing and Working with Asbestos”.

The previously referred to ACOP’s L127 (The Management of Asbestos in non-domestic premises) and L143 (Work with Materials containing Asbestos) have been consolidated into the single, revised ACOP (L143). This has been updated to make it easier for employers to understand and meet their legal obligations, and to reflect the changes introduced in The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) which include the introduction of a new category called ‘Notifiable Non-licensed Removals’ and a new requirement relating to medicals for staff working on such removal projects.

The revised ACOP is available on the HSE website by clicking on the following link:
